“Sparkle and glitter… tip top fireworks at Langley Park GS tonight”
We were very fortunate to have photographer Chris Weedon at the Langley Park School for Girls display. He has taken a fantastic set of photos and has very kindly allowed us to reproduce one here. A much larger selection can be seen here.
On Saturday 10 November we fired the annual Rotary Club of West Wickham and Langley Park School for Girls PSA display. A landmark event in the local calendar for the past 18 years. A crowd of around 2,500 turned out after a drizzly day which transformed into a cold evening to watch the show, raising valuable funds for the school and local charities. Many thanks to everyone for their support and also to Sound Services for all their help.
The show has been written up in the local newspaper as well as getting some great comments on Twitter including:
The Rotary Club of West Wickham and Langley Park School for Girls PSA aims to beat their fundraising record of £8,200 from their 2011 fireworks event at this year’s fireworks display at Langley Park School for Girls in Hawksbrook Lane on Saturday 10 November 2012. Gates open at 6pm and the display starts at 7pm.
Ticket prices are adults £6, Children £3.50, Under 5s go free. Family tickets of £14 for two adults and two children available only in advance from participating local schools and Matthews Jewellers in West Wickham.
Proceeds from the display go to St Christopher’s Hospice, other charities and community projects, and to the school.
2012 is the 18th fireworks display and is one of the longest running in the Beckenham and West Wickham area.
According to organiser John Thornton from the West Wickham Rotary Club, the display has a strong track record of attracting a significant amount of local support. He says: “We deliberately keep the prices family friendly and if you buy a family ticket in advance you get a better rate than on the night. This is a major fund-raising event for the area and it is the area that benefits as a result.”
In addition to the fireworks, there will be music, hot food, drinks – including mulled wine – and some intriguing novelties organised by the Langley Park School for Girls Parents/Staff Association.
The fireworks display is being provided by The Knights of Fire Fireworks.
Knights of Fire have been appointed for the first time to provide the annual Guy Fawkes display at Langley Park School for Girls. The display is a long-established feature of the West Wickham and Beckenham calender – running for more than 15 years. Organised by the Rotary Club of West Wickham and the Langley Park School for Girls Parent/Staff Association, the display takes place on Saturday 10 November and raises funds for the school and other charitable good causes.
